The hire car
Everything else is central London, where the Tube is faster and parking is a problem. Reem brings us in from the airport, and a booked car takes us back — so the hire car is only needed for the theme park.

Good to know
Ask staff at any Tube station to add the Young Visitor discount to an Oyster card. It halves the adult fare for 11 to 15 year olds and lasts 14 days, so it covers the whole trip. Both of them have to be there so staff can check their age. Yara is under 11, so she travels free with us.
Science, Natural History, the National Maritime Museum and the main Tate Modern collection all cost nothing to walk into. Only the special exhibitions are ticketed.
Up to thirty per cent cheaper than buying at the pier. Uber Boat by Thames Clippers runs from Westminster all the way to Greenwich, ten minutes from the flat.
Two of our evenings are outdoors — the Globe on Sunday and the walk back along the river. A light rain layer in the bag beats an umbrella, which the Globe will not let you open anyway.
Most of the restaurants below serve the same kitchen at lunch and early evening for roughly half the à la carte price. Every link goes to the restaurant's own menu, so we can look together and decide before we go.
